AVM

40 years of amplifier mastery from Malsch

Audio Video Manufaktur: four decades of German engineering — streaming receivers, amplifiers and turntables handcrafted in Malsch.

Contact Us

AVM Audio Video Manufaktur has produced high-end audio equipment in Malsch, near Karlsruhe, since 1986. The company operates as a manufactory rather than a factory, with development, assembly, and testing conducted in Germany in small series by dedicated staff who sign their work.

Over four decades, AVM has become a German benchmark for integrating a complete high-end system into a single elegant chassis. Its streaming receivers and CD-receivers combine amplifier, DAC, streamer, and preamplifier without compromising the sound quality of separate components. Meanwhile, its pure amplifiers, tube-hybrid designs, and Rotation turntables appeal to traditional audiophiles.

In its anniversary year, AVM introduces the new Ovation S series and AS XL reference integrated, leading a catalog that ranges from the accessible Inspiration line to flagship statement electronics. All products feature clean German design and are available in silver, black, or the signature Cellini chrome finish.

Engineered and Built in Malsch

AVM’s philosophy reflects the principles of German engineering: precise measurement, robust construction, and a focus on delivering superior sound quality. The company develops amplifier stages in-house with large, regulated power supplies. Digital sections feature advanced converter architectures with galvanic isolation. Tube-hybrid designs combine a modern output stage with a hand-selected valve line stage, offering warmth without the drawbacks of vintage designs.

AVM stands out among high-end brands for its disciplined platform approach. Technologies introduced in the flagship Ovation series are intentionally integrated into the Evolution and Inspiration lines, ensuring that even the compact CS 2.3 receiver benefits from advanced circuit solutions found in higher-priced models. The same dedicated team in Malsch handles all product design, not a marketing department.

AVM’s manufacturing philosophy extends to every detail. Chassis are machined from aluminium, controls are milled, and the optional chrome Cellini finish is polished to a jewellery standard. Firmware is developed in Germany and supported for years; even streaming components from a decade ago continue to receive updates, which is rare in the industry.

Each unit undergoes burn-in and measurement before shipping. While this process may seem unremarkable, it is essential: AVM’s forty-year reputation for reliability is built on rigorous testing.

Ovation, Evolution, Inspiration — and Rotation

The AVM catalog offers a comprehensive range of high-quality products. At the top, the anniversary-refreshed Ovation S series features reference separates and acclaimed all-in-one Ovation receivers that combine streaming, DAC, preamplifier, and powerful amplification in a single chassis. Tube line-stage options are also available. The new AS XL leads the lineup as a 2×400-watt reference integrated amplifier with full streaming capabilities, demonstrating that convenience and high-end performance can coexist.

The Evolution series extends this architecture to a broader audience, offering integrated amplifiers, CD receivers, and streaming receivers that consistently perform well in group tests. The Inspiration series serves as the compact entry point, designed to fit on a bookshelf while maintaining AVM’s signature sound and build quality.

The Rotation series is AVM’s turntable line, engineered with Malsch precision, featuring mass-loaded platters, precision bearings, and matching phono stages. Paired with AVM’s phono inputs and the PH 30 or Ovation phono preamplifiers, AVM becomes one of the few brands that lets customers assemble a complete system—including vinyl playback, streaming, and amplification—from a single German manufacturer.

All product lines share unified control logic and the RC X app, ensuring seamless system integration. Each product is available in classic silver, black, or the chrome Cellini edition, which has become the brand’s visual signature.

The All-in-One Without Sacrifice

AVM's receivers address a key concern for modern listeners: whether a single, elegant component can replace multiple separates without sacrificing sound quality. In Malsch, this solution has been refined for over twenty years.

Each Ovation or Evolution receiver integrates a comprehensive streaming platform (Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify, internet radio, AirPlay, Roon-ready models), a reference DAC, an analog preamplifier, and robust power stages for true loudspeaker performance. This is not a compromise in a lifestyle product, but a consolidation of genuine high-end engineering.

For listeners, this means using one power cable, one pair of speaker cables, and a single remote or app, keeping the living room uncluttered. It is high-end audio designed to integrate seamlessly into modern life.

Why choose AVM?

AVM delivers true reference sound without a dedicated room or a lifestyle focused on equipment.

Many audiophiles find that separate components deliver superior sound only when every element is perfectly matched. AVM eliminates this uncertainty. Its engineers design internal connections with short signal paths and matched gain structures, allowing a single Ovation receiver to outperform more expensive, mismatched systems. With AVM, you are investing in engineering coherence, the true source of quality.

Flexibility is another key advantage. AVM offers separate and hybrid tube designs, streaming sources, phono stages, and turntables. You can start with a single all-in-one component and expand your system while staying within the brand. The control experience, German build quality, and sound signature—clean, powerful, and tonally honest, with added warmth in tube models—remain consistent throughout.

Longevity further distinguishes AVM. With forty years of continuous production, decades of firmware support, ongoing service for older models, and strong resale values, AVM is built to last. In Malsch, products return for service, not disposal.

AVM also values aesthetics. Milled aluminum, precise displays, and the chrome Cellini finish make each amplifier a visual highlight. AVM ensures that daily-use components are visually appealing.
